Thadora Farms is a family-owned and women-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit herb therapy farm, apothecary, and café located on 5.5 acres in Campobello, South Carolina. Rooted in the legacy of Thad and Ora Lee Smith who were African American landowners who secured this land in the 1940s, Thadora Farms continues their vision of community resilience, healing, and empowerment through herbal therapy and herb/plant medicine. Our mission is to promote hope and healing through herbalism, connecting people to the land, ancestral wisdom, and the restorative power of plants. We achieve this through regenerative and sustainable farming, value-added products,  community education, and wellness programs that foster health, self-reliance, and inclusion.

Our Story

Thadora Farms is rooted in the legacy of Thad and Ora Lee Smith.  Thad was a deacon, a factory worker, and a farmer; Ora was a nurse and minister who devoted her life to caring for women who were hurting and in need of healing. Together, they fostered faith and strength rooted in service, community, and care.  The 5.5 acre farm sits on land that they purchased in the late 1940s; a time when it was rare and risky for black families to own property.  Out of necessity, he inspected the land at night, and the purchase was kept secret until it was safe. That quiet act of courage became the foundation for generations of resilience and pride.

Thadora Farms is operated by their descendants to honor their memory and to continue the legacy of their work by cultivating the soil they once walked, nurturing wellness through herbs, and creating a space where hope, healing, and heritage grow together.  Farm Manager and Visionary, Cecelia Miller(the oldest granddaughter) brings over eight years of entrepreneurial experience with The CoffeeLady31.

For generations, the land has served as a place of refuge, resilience, and family connection.

Thadora Farms is named in their honor and continues this powerful legacy of faith, perseverance, and service to community.
